New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler is coming off of his worst game as a starter in the National Football League. This week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he hopes to snap back.
Following his four-turnover performance last week, Rattler said he has to get settled in quicker. "I've got to get the ball out quicker to start the game. I have to protect the ball too. I can't fumble the ball on the second play of the game and give the ball away four times." He told the media. "Definitely not what I expected to do, but y'know, you have to bounce back from that."
Once the game was over, and honestly even while it was still going on, Rattler's performance had some calling for Tyler Shough, the rookie second-round QB. However, Saints head coach Kellen Moore said that was a thought that never crossed his mind. "He's played a lot of good football. I think he's going to grow and continue to get better." This game could change that, however, as Rattler very well could be playing for his job.
Against the Buccaneers, Saints QB Spencer Rattler will have his work cut out for him
For Spencer Rattler, his need for a rebound game came at the worst time in the season, as their next opponent is the division leader, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Currently, their defense, which is run by head coach Todd Bowles, has generated pressure 41.4% of the time this season, per Next Gen Stats. That's second in the NFL.
However, despite the intimidating defense, Rattler might not need to be sweating so hard. In his career, he has two starts against the Bucs and has thrown for nearly 500 yards in both games combined. Their passing defense is also near the bottom of the league, ranked 23rd, so he might be able to add even more yardage to that total.
Furthermore, to Rattler's benefit, his star wide receiver Chris Olave is coming off one of his best career game and the first one where he had multiple touchdowns in one afternoon. If Rattler can just hang on to his coattails, then there should be no reason he won't light up the stat sheet.
