One of Spencer Rattler’s biggest improvements from his rookie season has been his mental processing. He’s significantly more decisive and isn’t putting the ball in harm's way. This will be tested against a Dennis Allen-led Chicago Bears defense that excels at forcing turnovers.

Rattler threw five interceptions in his seven appearances last year. That number is down to one through six games. The lack of turnovers is a major reason why they have been competitive. They have a +4 turnover margin despite being 1-5.

Rattler will have a major test against Dennis Allen. Allen is known for his disguised coverages and confusing the opposing quarterback. The pre-snap picture is often completely different from the actual coverage. It’s imperative that Rattler remains composed and doesn’t try to force anything.

The Bears defense thrives on forcing turnovers

The Bears defense is second in the NFL with eight interceptions and 12 total takeaways. Five different players have tallied interceptions. Each defender is capable of making a play on the ball. Cornerbacks, safeties, and linebackers have all taken the pigskin away.

It’s imperative Rattler doesn’t give the ball away. The Bears offense only has four turnovers this season. Their +8 turnover margin is tied for first in the NFL. This creates little room for error for the Saints offense.

This matchup will gauge what fans can expect from Rattler the rest of the season. He’s played excellent so far and has looked like a formidable starter, but fans will eventually get tired of losing, even if it's not his fault. A bad showing and a loss here could begin the calls for Tyler Shough to see the field.

Beyond that, this game should mean more for Rattler. He’s already going up against his former head coach. But another storyline for him is his matchup against Caleb Williams, the quarterback he was benched for at Oklahoma. This is a pristine opportunity for him to get revenge.

Spencer Rattler will be tested against a Bears defense that forces turnovers at a high rate. His growth over the past year will be on full display. If he can get through this game clean, it will be the biggest statement of his growth in this department.
