Spencer Rattler was viewed as a liability for the New Orleans Saints heading into the season. That has changed dramatically through two weeks. They may be 0-2, but he isn’t the reason. On the contrary, he’s played well. Rattler’s PFF grades back this up. In fact, they have him graded as a top-10 quarterback.

PFF grades should be taken with a grain of salt. They are an excellent indicator of a player's performance, but don’t tell the whole story. Rattler isn’t a top-10 quarterback just because of his grade. However, it does show that he’s played well to start 2025.

Rattler ranks eighth among quarterbacks with 40 or more dropbacks, receiving an offensive grade of 79.7. For reference, he had a 52.0 grade in 2024. So far he’s thrown 52/80, 421 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s exceeded all expectations thus far in 2025.

Rattler’s shown vast improvement from 2024

Rattler is a far better quarterback than he was last season. His offensive grade in 2024 ranked dead last for quarterbacks with at least 200 dropbacks. He’s improved as a passer, but his biggest growth is arguably his rushing ability.

Rattler’s rushing stats aren’t impressive on the surface. He only has eight attempts for 43 yards. What’s improved is his ability to improvise and not take sacks. Rattler would sit in the pocket trying to find an open receiver for too long last year. This season if he’s not finding an open read he’s taking off and scrambling.

Rattler was given a 75.3 rushing grade by PFF, ranking him ninth. He is just behind Josh Allen (80.0) and is ahead of Justin Herbert (68.7), Jayden Daniels (67.6), and Kyler Murray (65.8). He won’t break off a 70 yard run, but his ability to turn a sack into 5+ yards is invaluable.

Spencer Rattler’s PFF grade is showing the national media that he is a formidable quarterback. It also highlights his vast improvement from 2024, both passing and rushing. Rattler can lead the Saints to victory if he keeps playing at this level.
