The 2026 NFL Combine begins on Thursday, providing prospects a premier opportunity to showcase their athleticism to scouts and team representatives. An impressive performance can solidify a prospect’s stock or help them fly up draft boards. One of the most anticipated players in Indianapolis is Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles. He’s already viewed as a top-10 candidate in April, but will shine further at the event. Thus, solidifying himself as a premier player in the draft.

There's been a trend of the top prospects not competing in pre-draft events, allowing their film to do the talking. Because of this, most people didn’t expect Styles to participate. However, he cleared the air and announced his intentions to test and run drills while in Indianapolis on Monday morning.

This is an excellent decision for the former Buckeye. He’s an exceptional athlete, ranking No. 10 on Feldman’s annual Freaks list, and will undoubtedly be a major talking point after the event.

Even before testing, Sonny Styles is arguably the best player in the 2026 NFL Draft

He wouldn’t be a flashy pick, but Styles should be an option for the Saints at pick eight. Demario Davis was noncommittal about returning this offseason, which means linebacker could be a major need. Even if Davis stays, he’s aging and there’s little depth outside of him. Styles would be a franchise cornerstone and the defensive signal caller for the future in New Orleans.

Styles is the most well rounded player in the draft. He’s outstanding against the run, comfortable in coverage, can rush the quarterback, and a reliable leader. All of this stems from his uncanny athleticism.

Styles used to be a safety before converting to linebacker prior to the 2024 season. This is evident in his play, as his movement skills are unparalleled. If Styles is in the position to make a play, which he often is, he does. He rarely misses a tackle, only two in 2025 (both in Ohio State’s playoff loss to Miami), and has excellent ball skills.

Overall, expect Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles to light up the NFL Combine. His superb athleticism makes him a must-watch player. He may not be the ideal selection for fans of the Saints, but he would be a perfect fit in the defense and be a valuable player for the foreseeable future.
