Sean Payton really wanted to talk trash after the Broncos swept the NFC South
Everyone in New Orleans will tell you that Sean Payton is a great coach; he led a dominant Saints team during his time in the city. Now, his work with the Denver Broncos is further building his resume. Payton has Denver at a surprising 6-5, during his second season with the team.
While the location and team has changed for the veteran coach, a lot has remained the same. One thing that is still the same for Payton is his dominance over the NFC South. The AFC West and NFC South all played each other this season, and on Sunday, the Broncos completed a sweep of the NFC South.
Of course, Payton was asked about this following his Week 11 win over the Atlanta Falcons, since it is the division he spent a ton of time in. When asked if he just had an institutional knowledge about the division or if he was on some type of revenge tour, Payton said Denver is just focused on winning. He then hesitated, and added that he could say something smart but opted to refrain, and laughed instead.
Sean Payton takes the high road after sweeping NFC South
There are a few things Payton could’ve said, like he still owns the division, or he could’ve taken a shot at the Falcons, New Orleans’ top rival, who he defeated on Sunday. However, Payton opted to take the high road, so it’s unclear what exactly was on his mind.
What is clear, though, is that Payton and the Broncos absolutely dominated every team in the NFC South. In Week 3, they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 26-7. In Week 7, Payton returned to New Orleans and handed the Saints a 33-10 loss. It was the Carolina Panthers’ turn a week later, and they fell to Denver 28-14. Sunday’s Week 11 game against Atlanta was the conclusion of NFC South games for the Broncos, and they beat the Falcons 38-6.
Maybe Sean Payton wanted to say he’s still the king of the NFC South.
