The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly signed veteran offensive lineman Shane Lemieux to the club's practice squad (h/t Ian Rapoport of NFL Network). He notably reunites with his former offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak, ahead of a Week 3 matchup against their previous employer, the New Orleans Saints.

Lemieux appeared in seven games, making four starts, with New Orleans last season. He now follows Kubiak, who served as the Saints' play-caller at the time, to Seattle. The timing of the move is interesting, considering the Seahawks host Kubiak and Lemieux's ex-team a few days later.
It's unclear if the decision to add Lemieux before a showdown with New Orleans was intentional or coincidental, though we lean toward the latter. For whatever it's worth, the Seahawks did host him for a workout on Sep. 9, per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. Nevertheless, the sixth-year pro was a member of the Saints less than a month ago; maybe he can provide his new franchise a competitive edge.

However, Lemieux's connection to Kubiak is probably the more valuable nugget to the Seahawks. The former's familiarity with the latter's outside zone rushing concept gives Seattle another blocker they can seamlessly plug and play in their lineup if needed. This is crucial for a group that wants to establish the ground game under head coach Mike Macdonald.
New Orleans' O-line was a bit of a revolving door last year, which paved the way for Lemieux to get meaningful reps in Kubiak's scheme. He filled in for two-time Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy, who was limited to seven contests due to groin and shoulder issues. His production with the Saints didn't exactly merit rekindling an old flame, but Seattle's ostensibly hoping for better results with a change of scenery.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) gave Lemieux poor-to-below-average rates in his lone campaign with the Saints ($). He earned a 58.8 run-blocking grade and a 42.1 pass-protection mark, good for a 51.1 overall assessment. Whether the Seahawks promote him to the 53-man roster is anyone's guess, knowing they're relatively healthy up front at the moment.
In April 2024, Lemieux landed with the Saints on a one-year contract. He was released a handful of months later before latching back onto their practice squad. The 2020 fifth-round pick experienced a similar situation this past offseason but didn't return to New Orleans upon getting cut.
