The 2026 NFL Free Agency window opens at 3 PM CST on Wednesday, March 11. This is a highly anticipated day for New Orleans Saints fans as the offseason lull of no new acquisitions is finally over. Here, they can address major holes on the roster in hopes of competing in 2026.

There are far more than five positions the Saints must grab in free agency, but these should be their biggest priority. There’s a mix of offensive and defensive groups on this list that need help. Additionally, it wasn’t included here, but adding another kicker and punter is required.

With that said, it’s time to get into the five positions the Saints must sign in the 2026 free agency period.

Saints can’t afford to not address guard

Guard

A guard is the Saints biggest positional need. Cesar Ruiz and Dillon Radunz were fine in 2025, and that’s being generous. Fixing this position would help protect Tyler Shough and elevate the running game. There are ample veteran options, like Buffalo Bills left guard David Edwards, who could be a day-one starter. It may be fairly expensive to sign a quality one, but it’s well worth the price tag.

Cornerback

Although nothing official has been announced about the future of Alontae Taylor, it’s highly unlikely he resigns with the Saints. This makes it necessary they pick up a slot corner, but the need doesn’t stop there. They need to add depth at the boundary outside of Kool-Aid McKinstry and Quincy Riley. Because of this, finding at least one cornerback in free agency is imperative to the Saints defensive success.

Edge rusher

When in doubt, pick up a defensive lineman. The Seattle Seahawks proved that being dominant in the trenches can win games. The Saints are on their way to this, but still need some upgrades. Chase Young is a star, but Carl Granderson and Cameron Jordan are questionable heading into 2026. They will likely address this in the 2026 NFL Draft, but it would be smart to grab one in free agency as well.

Running back

Running back was viewed as a strength heading into the year, but injuries decimated the group. Alvin Kamara is aging, Kendre Miller can’t be relied upon, and Devin Neal has shown flashes but battled injuries. These inconsistencies and question marks should inspire the Saints to add another explosive playmaker this offseason.

Wide Receiver

The Saints primary goal this offseason is simple: get Tyler Shough as many weapons as possible. There can’t be another situation like week 18 last year when he’s throwing to almost exclusively practice squad players. To help with this, it’s pivotal they build depth at the position. The wide receiver group is stronger in the NFL Draft than free agency, but they should still add another veteran presence to the room.
