Chris Olave is one of the New Orleans Saints best players. Many would see that and his age and see Olave as a building block for the Saints future. Not Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report. He listed every team's best trade asset and landed on Olave as the top option. Though he would command the largest return, a trade just doesn't make sense unless negotiations drastically break down.
Ballentine brings up the fact that Olave is due for a new contract and says that the wide receiver might want to be paid like an All-Pro for his next deal. Briefly mentioning his concussion history, he says that the Saints could get a good haul for Olave.
"His looming contract extension is an interesting one. He could expect to be paid like an All-Pro at an increasingly premium position. The Saints could expect him to want protection in case his injuries become a recurring problem. Even with the risk baked in, it's fair to assume that New Orleans could get a good haul for a 25-year-old receiver of his caliber. That's something that could at least be worth considering."
The Saints would be fools to get rid of Chris Olave
If the Saints were to trade Chris Olave, they would be the biggest fools on the planet. It doesn't matter what a team might be offering for him; you just don't trade the franchise's best receiver when you're already struggling with the lack of depth there.
Furthermore, there is Olave's chemistry with Tyler Shough. The quarterback himself has described their connection as "explosive," That is almost an understatement. Olave put up numbers he's never put up before, gathering 100 receptions for 1,163 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. His best games came with Shough throwing the ball.
Additionally, Olave has significantly developed as a leader within the locker room over the past year. With the way things are trending, he's likely to be a team captain next season. Yes, Olave has had concussions nagging him throughout his career. But he's also an elite WR1, which isn't easy to find in the NFL. A team does not just trade guys like that away.
