The New Orleans Saints tied their preseason matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they likely would have lost if it wasn’t for our player of the game, Mason Tipton. He was a key part of Spencer Rattler’s final drive.

The Who Dat Dish team did a roundtable of who stood out the most in the second preseason contest and the answer was nearly unanimous. Tipton was picked by three of our four analysts.

Jonas Sanker found his way into the mix as well. Sanker’s interception in the closing seconds was the exclamation point on an exciting final minutes of preseason action. That was the standout moment, but it would be unfair to boil down his day to that one play.

Mason Tipton nearly sweeps player of the game votes

Mason Tipton

Forget MVP of the game. Tipton has been the MVP of the preseason. The Saints were looking for a wide receiver to standout behind the top three, and Tipton has rose to the occasion. He's been the recipient of Shough and Rattler's longest passes. When Rattler in got to have it moments on third and fourth down of the final drive, he went to Tipton. Tipton racked up 42 yards on the final drive of the game to help tie the score.~ Darrion Gray

Jonas Sanker

My player of the game is Jonas Sanker. The rookie safety’s game will be remembered by his game saving interception, however, he had a strong game beyond that play as well. Sanker’s versatility was on full display, playing snaps at free safety, box safety and in the slot. In week one he only played 30 snaps, his opportunity was much greater this week, tallying 63 snaps, which he took full advantage of. It’s hard to ask more out of a rookie.

Mason Tipton

Mason Tipton had a strong performance vs the Jaguars, bringing in 6 out of 8 targets for 100 yards. He continues to make splash plays, hauling in receptions of 46 and 25 yards. Tipton was responsible for a big chunk of the Saints receiving yards and was a major factor in the Saints 17-17 tie. Without Tipton’s performance, there is no 2nd half rally and we would see a totally different ball game.~ Tramell Jeffers

Mason Tipton

My player of the game was mason tipton. Catching six passes out of 100 receiving yards (and that 45-yard catch from Rattler? Amazing). With his performance today, I think he has solidified his spot on the 53 roster. Additionally another thing that impressed me was the humbleness he showed post game, when he talked blames himself for the interception.~ Molly Bauer
