Kellen Moore makes his true debut as the New Orleans Saints head coach on Sunday, and when he does, the team will be wearing their newly announced gold jerseys. The team made the announcement on their official social media page.

The Saints unveiled their gold jerseys at the end of July after teasing them a week earlier. As suggested in the original video package, the gold jersey will be paired with the Saints black alternative helmets. As a fan of the black helmets, it feels good to see them paired with a complimentary jersey.

We're officially in the first game week of the Saints 2025 season, and they're kicking it off in style. Time will tell how well the Saints play on the field, but they'll certainly look good regardless. How often they'll wear these jerseys is unknown, but it was the perfect choice for Week 1.

Saints entering the Kellen Moore era with an all around new look

The New Orleans Saints will look drastically different on Sunday, and that goes beyond the uniform the players will wear. That's why decision to open the season in gold jerseys feels purposefully thematic and symbolic.

The Saints are moving into a new era for the first time since 2006. Even when the Saints made the move to Dennis Allen it was an extension of the Sean Payton era, or at least an attempt at extending it. Moving on to Moore resembles a sharp turn away from what has defined the Saints organization for the last two decades.

With the remnants of Sean Payton washed away on the staff, Moore also has a revamped roster. Some of the decisions were by choice and some were by force, such as veteran presences like Derek Carr and Tyrann Mathieu stepped away from the team.

The result? The Saints have a new vocal leader in the back end of their secondary, Justin Reid. Reid has jumped into the role seamlessly, and is already a leader of the defense despite arriving just months ago. The Saints are going with a quarterback they drafted for the first time this century.

The Saints made all of their draft in the NFL draft. There's an influx of both experience and youth coming to the team. Match that with a new head coach, and this is genuinely a new-look Saints. What better way to start an era with that many new pieces than with a new jersey.
