It hasn’t been the best season for New Orleans Saints legend Cam Jordan. The veteran defensive end was demoted to a rotational player, and more importantly, the Saints have lost their last three games. Knowing he’s near the end of his career, Jordan is just trying to do everything he can to help New Orleans win a Super Bowl, but things are pretty rocky right now.

During the Saints’ last game, a 26-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, some fans took to social media to criticize Jordan. Posting a video of Jordan engaged with a Chiefs lineman, one fan encouraged the veteran defender to retire, because he’s hurting his Hall of Fame chances with his current performance.

Jordan came across the post and decided to defend himself. He explained that the defensive line was running a stunt, and since he was looping outside, it was his responsibility to keep the quarterback in the pocket while also trying to get home for a sack.

While acknowledging he could’ve done a better job of getting rid of the lineman, he wanted to make it clear that he was doing what was necessary to keep Patrick Mahomes in the pocket, and not just getting manhandled by an offensive lineman.

A lot of fans responded to Jordan letting him know that he didn’t have to explain himself to online critics, and even some other NFL players joined in to further emphasize that fans don’t always know what they’re watching.

Regardless, Jordan knows he and the team need to be better moving forward. Through five weeks, the Saints are 2-3, and Jordan has just five tackles. However, he has only played 43% of New Orleans’ defensive snaps.

Head coach Dennis Allen admitted Jordan’s snaps will remain limited, as the team wants to play Carl Granderson and Chase Young more. Jordan has been accepting of that, and he’s just trying to be impactful in whatever role he has.
