Everyone was talking about Chase Young and Carl Granderson as the New Orleans Saints premier edge rushers. However, it’s time to turn back the clock; Cameron Jordan looked like a top rusher in the league in the Saints loss against the Cardinals.

Jordan only tallied two sacks in 2023. This was the second lowest in his career, just beating out his rookie season, and things didn't get much better the following season. Many fans were concerned that he was slowing down. This couldn’t be further from the truth, he showed that in his first game of 2025.

Jordan had an amazing game. He ended with 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and a pass deflection. Jordan was arguably the Saints best defensive player. He was everywhere, making plays against the run and the pass.

Cam Jordan's revitalization greatly improves the Saints defense

It’s unlikely that Jordan will continue racking up multi-sack games weekly. But this is a great shine that he will be a consistent threat defensively. An eight sack season would be outstanding. Combining him with Young and Granderson now suddenly creates a dynamic group rushing the passer.

It's obvious that Brandon Staley’s defense benefits the pass rushing group. It eliminates a lot of thought and allows the edge rushers to either set the edge against the run or focus on pressuring the quarterback. The pass rush looked improved even without Chase Young playing. When he’s back this group could be dangerous.

Staley’s defense was great, but still has some things they need to fix up. Similarly to 2024, missed tackles are still a major issue. For them to achieve success, they need to constantly bring down players on first contact.

Although the Saints lost, this game should give fans hope, especially at edge rusher. Cam Jordan is looking like his former self, constantly making plays. Brandon Staley’s defense still needs some improvement, but is off to a strong start.
