Spencer Rattler has another camp battle on his hands. The New Orleans Saints worked into the night on Tuesday. Per NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill, the Saints made a surprising addition to the team: former second-overall selection and journeyman quarterback Zach Wilson.

Wilson was selected by the New York Jets back in 2021, but was traded by the team just three seasons later to the Denver Broncos. Maybe he and the former New Orleans head coach had some time to have a conversation or two about the city and organization? Yet, that partnership only lasted a year. Having his fifth-year option declined, he signed with the Miami Dolphins during his first stint in free agency.

He's the third quarterback on the roster now with starting experience. Details of the contract haven't been announced, but if the pedigree of the signing says anything, it means that the Saints might have a different lineup of quarterbacks next season. Someone will have to get pushed out if Wilson plays well enough in the offseason, and there's no way it'll be Tyler Shough

A Spencer Rattler trade might be on the table for the Saints

With the addition of the former Sean Payton disciple, the quarterback room has become quite crowded. But in a twist of the usual tale, it's the second-string guy whose job is at risk rather than the starter. Spencer Rattler finds himself in another competition for a third year in a row. Like his rookie year, he's pushing to be the backup.

It won't be his first rodeo, having battled Shough for the starting job last season, but it's the first time where he might not have a regular season roster spot if he loses. Rattler would be the emergency quarterback at best. He could also bounce on and off the roster like Jake Haener did last season.

If Rattler loses out to Zach Wilson, then the Saints would be more likely to ship him out rather than just straight-up cutting him. They'd find more value that way and might even get a fifth-round pick for the former fifth round pick. With that being said, he's also performed well enough in his 14 starts that the Saints could end up with a fourth-round pick if the right team comes calling.

There are sure to be many interested, including his home-state team, the Arizona Cardinals. They're about to head into their first season without Kyler Murray since before the COVID-19 pandemic and could use another young quarterback on the roster.
