Alvin Kamara's future with the New Orleans Saints has once again been a hot topic this offseason. Two weeks into free agency, though, and nothing has been done to quiet the rumors.
It's the most Kamara's future with the team has come into question since... last year. Unfortunately a common occurrence for an aging running back in the NFL, Kamara himself hasn't actually hinted at anything one way or another. At this point, it's just as likely that he could come back to the Saints, maybbe even more likely. Other scenarios, like a trade, are much less likely to happen.
Not much has been heard from Kamara's camp, with the latest news from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport putting some confidence in the idea that he could retire. However, Kamara has been seen in training videos across various instagram stories, so it's possible that it's all just gossip.
Saints trading Alvin Kamara feels like the unlikeliest outcome this offseason
Alvin Kamara will likely return to the Saints in 2026
The New Orleans Saints are likely to see Alvin Kamara back in uniform next year. As said before, the running back hasn't hinted at retirement himself and is also against a trade. There's been no indication that stance has wavered.
Etienne could help carry the load for Kamara. If he's the main one carrying the rock throughout the season, then that means that Kamara would be fresher and able to do the things the Who Dat Nation has known him to do. Lesser carries can preserve Kamara and help him play the entire season in 2026. That's something that's worth the money spent already.
Kamara could be serious about not playing anywhere else
Alvin Kamara could also be serious about not wanting to play anywhere else, which is why retirement is a serious option. The running back has stated in the past that if the Saints ever tried to trade him, he'd be sipping Pina Coladas somewhere. "I don't want to go anywhere; I've said it countless times. Ya'll know that; I think the fan base knows that," he said to the media. "At the end of the day, it's a business... I don't really know what happens up there. I've got to keep my head down."
Kamara can help defend a Super Bowl championship
Of course, there always is the scenario that the Saints trade Kamara anyway. If so, there are plenty of teams that could use his services. He could reunite with former teammate Rashid Shaheed on the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
They lost their top running back, Kenneth Walker, to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency. Their next man up, Zach Charbonnet, is also out of commission with a torn ACL he suffered in the division round of the playoffs. His recovery time is also expected to eat into the regular season, making the Seahawks slightly desperate for a new halfback.
It's a move that could honestly help keep Seattle as a contender. With a running back like Kamara on board, they might be able to pick up where they left off last year.
