The only big free agent still on the market for the New Orleans Saints is Cam Jordan. We're about two weeks into free agency, and it doesn't feel like the Saints legend is any closer to securing a contract.
It's been strangely quiet for the edge defender. There haven't been much chatter about Jordan's market, or who he could be connected to. It's a heavily discussed topic in Saints circles, but even then, there isn't much information out about Jordan's negotiations with the Saints.
The most we've received on the topic is Jordan's appearance on Terron Armstead's The Set. He discussed the process, and revealed he had a conversation with his wife about 3 options on the table. Let's take a look at what those options could be.
Where will Cam Jordan land in 2026?
Cam could always stay home with the Saints
The Saints still feel like the top option for Jordan. We know if he could pick his fall plans it would be suiting up for the Saints. He’s constantly stated he’d like to play his entire career in one place. The money still has to line up, though.Â
Jordan isn’t going to accept scraps in the name of playing for the Saints. The Saints also aren’t going to overpay. Right now, the sides are too far apart. It’s hard to imagine either side doesn’t want the partnership to work, but it has to be at the right price for both sides. You just have to wonder how long can Jordan wait for a happy medium before moving on.Â
Chiefs would give Cam Jordan instant contender status
One of the likely places Jordan could land if he moves on is the Chiefs. Demario Davis left for the Jets. It’s hard to see Jordan making a move like that. If Jordan is playing anywhere other than New Orleans, it’s likely a championship contender. Outside of last year, the Chiefs have been the contender of all contenders for the better part of a decade. Chris Jones clearly wouldn't be upset about this move.
Jordan could phase into media.
Cam Jordan is a smart man, and he's good with his words. Choosing to say three options instead of teams could mean nothing, and I'm open to reading too far into semantics. It at least opens the door to the idea of media. The longer this free agency draws out the more alternative options feel like actual options. It would be surprising, but not impossible, if Jordan flat out steps away from the game. As soon as he does, he'll have a job on some network as an analyst.
There's a reason every offseason you see the New Orleans Saints edge rusher do some sort of work in media. Jordan is a natural with the microphone in his face, and it is the natural next step in his career. The only question is when? Of the three options, this feels like last place. Jordan clearly believes he has more in the tank, so playing will supersede talking about the game.
