Well, things have certainly taken a sudden 180 degree turn. Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the New Orleans Saints and wide receiver Chris Olave are working on an extension.
This is after Olave's name has been one of the more popular in the rumor mill the past couple of weeks, with many thinking that the star would be traded. However, the news of the possible extension only goes in line with behind closed doors conversations Olave has referenced.
Now, we might have a clue as to what those conversations might've been about. As it turns out, those conversations could have been the beginning of extension talks. Olave might be here to stay in the Crescent City.
Saints WR Chris Olave is quietly building his case for an extension
You might not know it, because all the trade rumors have overshadowed it, but New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave is having the healthiest season of his career. Through the first seven weeks of the season, the former Ohio State Buckeye has yet to miss a game due to injury, something that he's only done once before. In his NFL career, Olave has actually never had a fully healthy season where he's played all 17 games, and right now, he is on pace to do just that.
It's crucial to acknowledge that he is still recuperating from missing the final eight games of the 2024 season. due to a concussion "It for sure did," Olave said when asked if it took him some time to get back into rhythm. "Practice is way different than the game, just being in there and getting that experience."
Well, halfway through the season, it seems the rust has worn off for him. He followed up a strong performance against the New England Patriots with an even better one against the Chicago Bears, catching five of the seven passes thrown his way (71%) for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Maybe all Olave needed to get back on track was some job security.
The conversation around Olave got significantly louder recently. He isn't letting that sway him, though. Olave is currently playing like a player who knows an extension is on the table or wants to take a trade off the table.
