The New Orleans Saints’ season hasn’t gone according to plan, leaving their bye with a 2-5 record. Because of this, they will likely be sellers at the upcoming NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, November 10. One possible trade candidate is edge rusher Carl Granderson.
The eight-year veteran has had a fantastic start to 2026 with 5.5 sacks. He’s always had flashes of brilliance, but wasn’t consistent. Now, he’s put it together and is among the most productive pass rushers in the league.
Losing Granderson would be a major hit to the Saints’ pass rush. However, the value he could fetch is worth the trouble, especially if they can’t turn their season around. So, it may be a tough goodbye, but one the coaching staff must look into.
Carl Granderson could be worth day-two value in the 2027 NFL Draft.
It’s tough to predict Granderson’s value, but he could easily be worth a day-two, possibly second-round draft pick. The defensive line trade market is lucrative, with former Tennessee Titan’s defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons being moved for two first-round picks. Granderson obviously isn’t worth that much, but he’s still a dynamic player who could elevate a championship contending team.
Additionally, every team needs edge rush help. It’s a unit that can’t have enough depth or talent. There are numerous suitors who will be interested in him and countless scheme fits. It’s not a matter of if teams call, it’s what they offer.
Ideally, a bidding war happens between multiple teams, driving up Granderson’s price. This would put the Saints in an advantageous situation.
Some Saints’ fans may wonder about his worth, but Granderson is an attractive talent with his team-friendly contact, making $13 million annually. He’s an unrestricted free agent and is an ideal target for someone in their championship window. Beyond that, he’s only 29-years old and could be a long-term piece on a defensive line.
It’s clear that Granderson loves New Orleans, and the team loves him back, but moves need to be made. The Saints aren’t in a position to be a contender, meaning they must bolster their future instead of competing now. It’s contradictive to how general manager Mickey Loomis operates, but is long overdue.
With this, the Saints are in for an extremely interesting, and hopefully active, trade deadline. It may hurt, but be ready for franchise pieces to be shipped off. Carl Granderson may be playing his last downs in the black and gold.
