Tom Pelissero reported Friday afternoon that the New Orleans Saints are inquiring about trading up with the Buffalo Bills in round two of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bills currently hold the 35th overall pick, which would put the Saints in a prime position to add Miami cornerback Keionte Scott. Alontae Taylor’s departure this offseason created a need at slot, which hasn’t been filled. As a result, it’s vital that the Saints address it early in the draft, making Scott the top option.
This proposal is reminiscent of 2024, when the Saints traded up on day two to select Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. Mickey Loomis isn’t afraid to make a bold move if a prospect he believes in is falling. This year, that could be several players, but Scott stands out as the premier prospect that he has his eyes on.
Moving up from 42 to 35 wouldn’t break the bank. According to Draft Tek, which assigns an estimated value to each pick, the Saints need to make up 70 points to equalize the trade, or approximately a fourth-round pick. Loomis doesn’t have a fourth worth that much, but would undoubtedly figure something out, whether it’s trading a future pick or giving up pick 73 and acquiring more value from Buffalo.
Keionte Scott would thrive in Alontae Taylor’s role
Scott and Taylor are extremely similar players. They both are fluid in coverage, fly downhill to defend the run, and can blitz the quarterback. What separates Scott from Taylor is his experience and instinctiveness. The former Miami Hurricane has an amazing feel for the game; he’s constantly in the right place and makes his presence known.
Scott would elevate Brandon Staley’s defense to a new level in 2026. His versatility would allow Staley to throw various exotic coverages and blitzes at opposing offenses. The rookie would help modernize the Saints’ defense and make them a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.
Overall, nothing is set in stone, but the Saints are in a perfect spot to trade up with the Bills and select Keionte Scott. They’ve shown a willingness to move up in the past, and could emulate that this year. Scott would be an ideal replacement for Alontae Taylor and elevate Staley’s defense.
