The coaching search is seriously heating up.

Monday has brought plenty of updates in the New Orleans Saints' coaching search.

Already, we have seen the likes of New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver getting second, in-person interviews scheduled.

Following that update came the news of Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Aaron Glenn being expected to interview with New Orleans, but only if he doesn't get an offer from the New York Jets.

That wasn't all, though. It's been a busy Monday for the Saints.

Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football confirmed another coaching update, and this one is massive.

"The Saints are setting up an in-person interview with Mike McCarthy, per source. Logistics are still being set. Weather and all that has to be worked around, but goal is this week," Underhill wrote.

The New Orleans Saints enter the mix for Mike McCarthy as their next head coach

Prior to Mike McCarthy getting set to interview with the Saints, he had only interviewed for one other job in the past week -- with the Chicago Bears. This seemed a little odd after he and the Dallas Cowboys parted way, and led some to believe he had his eyes firmly set on the Bears' job.

But, McCarthy interviewing with the Saints significantly changes things for this coaching cycle. A lot of folks were under the impression Chicago was going to make a push for McCarthy, along with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

More Saints news:

Not seeing McCarthy interview with other teams during his first week of coaching free agency was a little curious, to say the least. However, he now has multiple suitors after the Saints enter the fold.

McCarthy most recently coached with the Cowboys, of course, but also spent a long stint with the Green Bay Packers where he coached and helped develop Aaron Rodgers. McCarthy is known as an experienced head coach who consistently is able to get the best out of his quarterbacks.

He led the Cowboys to three-straight seasons with a record of 12-5 before the down season in 2024. He ended his tenure in Dallas with a record of 49-35. In Green Bay, he boasted a record of 125-77.

Over the course of his career, he hasn't always been strong in the playoffs, though. McCarthy has a career record of 11-11 in the postseason, where he's been known to struggle late in games with close scores.
