After the first two weeks of the season, people were talking about the New Orleans Saints possibly going to the Super Bowl. Of course, it was an overreaction to two games, but with the way the Saints looked in the first two weeks, them making a run to the Super Bowl seemed realistic.

Now, three weeks later, people are wondering if New Orleans is even going to make the playoffs. Just like the Super Bowl talk, this is a bit if an overreaction, but the Saints have lost three straight games, and things don’t look good. But, the team has a lot of football left to play, 12 games to be exact. New Orleans could still go on a headline-changing winning streak and a disheartening losing streak.

Since it’s still early in the season, every team is still technically in the race. However, some teams have better odds to make the playoffs than others.

Saints playoff odds

ESPN recently updated every teams’ odds to make the postseason, as well as their chances to clinch their respective divisions, earn a playoff bye week, and make the Super Bowl.

After Week 5, New Orleans currently has a 40% chance to make the playoffs. While that’s on the least-favorable side of 50%, it’s a bit more hopeful than everything else surrounding the Saints right now. 40% isn’t favorable, but teams have overcome much greater odds.

Those odds place New Orleans 10th in the NFC, and third in the NFC South. Speaking of the division, the Saints have a 25% chance to win it’s a division. They also have a 2% chance to earn the NFC’s top seed and get a first-round bye, and a 4% chance to make the Super Bowl.

Sitting at 2-3, the Saints could drastically change these odds by picking up some big wins in the next few weeks. New Orleans doesn’t have the toughest schedule going forward, and the team has proven its capable of playing good football. The Saints just need to get healthy and actually put together some good games, and the playoffs will be in reach.
