Saints passing attack could be reshaped with 1 player (and it's not who you think)

The New Orleans Saints offense reached a new dimension under rookie quarterback Tyler Shough in 2025, yet they were still missing a crucial piece: an explosive run after the catch receiver. Luckily for them, an ideal mid-round prospect awaits in the 2026 NFL Draft with Georgia’s Zachariah Branch.

The Saints’ leader in yards after catch last season was Juwan Johnson with 362, which is great for a tight end; however, he’s not a dynamic threat. He will barrel through arm tackles and occasionally make men miss, but not consistently.

This was Rashid Shaheed’s role before being shipped off at the trade deadline. Following this move, Shough didn’t have someone who could turn a mediocre five-yard gain into something more. The Saints must give him that weapon this offseason.

Zachariah Branch’s explosiveness makes him a perfect fit in the Saints’ offense

Branch is lightning in a bottle. His elite speed, short-area quickness, and twitchiness make him a nightmare for opposing defenses. The five-foot-10, 180 pound receiver ran a blazing 4.35 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, which is evident on his film. He frequently outran defenders and had another gear they couldn't match.

Although he’s a great route runner, Branch thrives in screen games and on manufactured touches. Kellen Moore would have a field day scheming up various plays and routes to create space for him. It doesn’t have to be complex; get Branch the ball and he does the rest.

This ability makes Branch a perfect complement to Chris Olave. The veteran stretches defenses with his superb speed and route running, which creates space underneath the play. This will make it easier to get Branch the ball and let him work.

Overall, Zachariah Branch isn’t viewed as a top receiver in the draft, but he would be a perfect mid-round addition for the Saints’ offense. His explosiveness after the catch gives Kellen Moore the missing piece and would give Tyler Shough another dynamic playmaker.
