If SB Nation's Doug Farrar is correct, the New Orleans Saints just secured the steal of the NFL Draft in Oscar Delp. The Saints landed Delp in the third round, and he's been everyone's favorite "What If" prospect. "What if he was actually utilized in the passing game? What would he look like?" Farrar's answer is George Kittle.

Farrar posted on social media "the Saints just got the next George Kittle in the third round." Funny enough, Kittle was picked in the fifth round. If they did that pick again, you can bet Kittle wouldn't go that low again.

Oscar Delp is the definition of untapped potential

The biggest negative on Delp's collegiate resume is he barely got the ball. When he first made it to Georgia, he had to sit behind Brock Bowers for a couple of years. You'd think that explains the lack of touches for Delp. Maybe as a freshman but Delp's best year came as a sophomore. That was with Bowers still on the roster.

Delp went for 284 yards and three touchdowns. That's not bad for a backup tight end sitting behind Bowers, who went on to be a first team All-Pro as a rookie. Those numbers suggested Delp was ready to step in as a major threat. Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn't. He never saw the targets to decide either way.

One stat I left out from his best year in 2023 was his amount of catches. He caught 24 passes playing behind Bowers. When Bowers left, Delp caught 21 and 20 passes in the next two seasons. His yards took a slight dip, but he was relatively consistent on a per catch basis. In last year, Delp actually saw his best yards per catch numbers of his career.

Delp should see more opportunities with the Saints than he saw at Georgia. There's a huge push that usage was the only thing holding him back. Now, it's on him to prove it
