All season, everyone has wondered if the New Orleans Saints would trade one of their talented young receivers. On Tuesday, hours before the trade deadline the Saints finally answered that question, sending Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks. In exchange for the speedy wideout and explosive returner, New Orleans is receiving a fourth- and fifth-round pick — both in 2026.
This officially ends Shaheed’s time with the Saints, where he carved out a career for himself as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Making the roster as an explosive returner, Shaheed was an All-Pro and Pro Bowl special teams player in 2023, but he really started to break out as a wide receiver in 2024. He will now reunite with his offensive coordinator from that season, Kline Kubiak, on the 6-2 Seahawks.

New Orleans Saints trade Rashid Shaheed to Seattle Seahawks
On the season, Shaheed has played in all nine games for the Saints, catching 44 passes for 499 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also still explosive as a returner, returning 10 punts for 129 yards this season, and one kick for 29 yards. He now joins an offense that is already averaging 359 yards and 28.9 points per game. Additionally, he’s joining a system that he’s already familiar with, so he will be able to fit right in with the young talent.
For New Orleans, this is the latest sign that it’s focused on the future. With a 1-8 record, the Saints weren’t really left with much of a choice. Additionally, Shaheed was set to enter free agency this offseason, so they likely would have lost him in the spring. While it’s tough to say goodbye to such a fun player, New Orleans acquired two valuable picks that will help them rebuild, for a player who would have bid farewell in a few months anyway.
Now, the biggest question surrounding the Saints is are they done? With several other talented players, is this the first of many deadline day trades? Will Shaheed’s running mate, Chris Olave, also be moved? Considering the current state of New Orleans' franchise, and the reality of the team’s inevitable rebuild, it seems like everything is on the table.
