The New Orleans Saints are back in action on Sunday, facing the New York Giants in a road game. Coming off a close loss in Week 13, the first loss during Darren Rizzi’s tenure as interim head coach, the Saints are hoping to get a win in Rizzi’s first road game. Playing the 2-10 Giants, the Saints are expected to win, but they aren’t much better at 4-8.

Fortunately, New Orleans will be getting some key players back into the lineup. The Saints will still be without guys like Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Paulson Adebo, and Taysom Hill, who’s season was ended a week ago, but the team will have some other talented players back on the field. That was evident in Sunday’s inactives list.

Key absences and their impact

Truthfully, there aren’t any key absences on this list of inactives; the five guys are four rookies and one second year player— all who have limited roles. The biggest absences are guys like Nick Saldiveri and other veterans who were placed on injured reserve. By being on IR, they aren’t technically listed as inactives.

The good news about this list is the guys that aren’t on it. Offensive linemen Erik McCoy, Cesar Ruiz, and Lucas Patrick were all on the injury report this week, but all three are ready to go. They’ll make a big difference in the run game, and so will Kendre Miller, who was activated off injured reserve. The second-year running back will help fill the void in the backfield left by Taysom Hill.

The Saints will also have key veterans Tyrann Mathieu, Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, and Pete Werner, who have all dealt with injuries this week, back in the lineup. All will be needed for the Saints to pick up their fifth win of the 2024 season.
