The New Orleans Saints return to action on Sunday, after having their bye week in Week 12. Prior to the bye, New Orleans won two straight games, improving its record to 4-7. Interim head coach Darren Rizzi hasn’t lost a game yet, and the Saints are hoping to keep the momentum rolling on Sunday when they face the Los Angeles Rams.

Fortunately for New Orleans, the bye week was good for the health of the team. Injuries have plagued the Saints all season. They started to get healthy in the weeks prior to the bye, and that’s part of why they got back in the win column. Now, the bye week has allowed other guys to heal up, and New Orleans will have a lot of guys available on Sunday.

Unfortunately, there are still some key absences as well. This is all evident in New Orleans’ inactives list for Week 13.

Key absences and their impact

Veteran guard Lucas Patrick remains out, as he deals with an ankle injury. His absence on an offensive line that has seen many lineups this season will be noticeable for New Orleans. It doesn’t help that Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy is back out of the lineup.

McCoy injured his groin in Week 3, and was out until Week 11. However, he was pulled early in his first game back, as he re-aggravated the groin injury. While the bye week gave him some additional time to recover, he still isn’t ready to go. This provides a similar obstacle that New Orleans has had to overcome all year.

Missing key players from the interior offensive line isn’t an easy hurdle to clear, but the Saints will have several other key players back on the field, as nearly all the other actives are rookies with limited roles.
