After closing out 2025 with a strong momentum shifting finish, the New Orleans Saints enter 2026 with an entirely different outlook.  What once felt like a patient rebuild has quickly transformed into legitimate playoff expectations.  Late season growth and renewed confidence have repositioned the franchise as a team ready to compete now rather than later.

NFL analyst Willie Colon named the Saints as the team he’s flirting with following the first week of free agency. Colon believes the Saints have quietly gathered enough talent and depth to position themselves as a playoff contender heading into the upcoming season. Their offseason aggression has sparked growing confidence throughout organization and fanbase.

Playoff hopes rise for the New Orleans Saints

The Saints have quietly positioned themselves as a legitimate playoff contender.  A strong finish to last season carried momentum into the offseason, and the front office responded by addressing key weaknesses instead of standing pat.

The additions of Travis Etienne and Noah Fant give the offense more explosiveness and reliability, while a full offseason for Tyler Shough to grow into the system provides stability at quarterback.  With improved balance and depth, this roster looks far more complete than it did last season.

There seems to be clarity in the direction of the offense, confidence in the locker room, and a coaching staff leaning into the strengths of its personnel. The Saints are looking to fire on all cylinders. Everyone seems bought in and ready to compete. The energy surrounding the team feels noticeably different from past seasons. That type of unity is usually the difference between an average team and one that makes a serious playoff push.

The Saints no longer feel like a team searching for answers. They feel like a squad building on belief rather than hope. If their young core takes another step and the defense maintains its standard, New Orleans has a formula to compete weekly.  At this point, a playoff berth wouldn’t be a surprise.  It would simply confirm what their trajectory has signaled all along.
