Starting in 2025, teams can add a third helmet color to their repertoire, and the New Orleans Saints are taking full advantage of that. The Saints teased the reveal on Tuesday and delivered their new white helmets Wednesday morning.

The reveal did not disappoint. The Saints revealed a white shell with a gold facemask and gold fleur-de-lis on each side. Upon deeper review, there are smaller details that make the helmet special.

The helmet also features black speckles and smaller fleur-de-lis within the gold stripe in the middle of the helmet. These details that can only be seen up close give the helmet an extra flair.

Saints add a proper helmet for their Color Rush uniforms

The white shell with the gold accents is a perfect fit for the Color Rush uniform. In their video release, the helmet can be seen being paired with the uniforms already. It's actually surprising this wasn't the decision the first go-around.

The Saints added black helmets in 2022 when the league began to allow a second helmet color. The helmets had promise, but New Orleans was insistent on pairing those black helmets with their all white Color Rush uniforms.

The team can wear three helmets now, so hopefully they style the black helmets better if they use them in the future. As natural of a fit as these new helmets are with the Color Rush uniform, the Saints' black helmet opens the door to a blackout uniform.

While these helmets do have the potential to go with the standard white away jerseys, NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reports the plan is to only wear these helmets with the Color Rush. This provides a cohesive combination and keeps the helmet as a part of the theme.

New Saints jerseys may be on the way soon

The original rumor said the Saints would unveil new helmets and jerseys on July 22. New Orleans already completed one half of that unveil, but there has been no official announcement about a jersey unveil. Where there's smoke there's fire. Time will tell if the fire is more than just a helmet reveal. It's definitely something to monitor.

If the Saints do unveil new jerseys, it would be nice to bring back the gold jerseys. The Saints wore these jerseys against the Minnesota Vikings in 2002 and never wore them again. Though the jerseys have only been seen once, they have still left a lasting impact over two decades later.

The Saints actually sell these jerseys in an official capacity, not fan made jerseys. This could be the team testing the waters to see if fans are interested in a new color. Defensive end Cam Jordan is on the list of advocates for a gold jersey. It would give the Saints a bold statement jersey and break away from the white and black tops the team has been accustomed to.
