Pro Football Focus' Daire Carragher listed the 5 best veteran-rookie pairings, and the New Orleans Saints' duo of Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson were inexplicably left off the list. Not only did it feel like an easy inclusion, Olave and Tyson have a strong argument for the best veteran-rookie duo after the draft.
Detroit Pistons guard Isaiah Thomas once said "I don't know what went into that process. I met the criteria to be selected, but I wasn't." There isn't a better quote to explain this snub.
Carragher highlighted rookies who won't be expected to produce immediately due to veterans in front of him. The only reasonable explanation is Tyson's expectations as a top-10 pick overruled the lower need to produce because of Olave.
Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson were no brainers for the list
If you're looking for veteran-rookie duos to highlight after the draft, Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson should be one of the first names to come to mind. The list is tailor made for them. The pairing checks both boxes in a major way, and how they work together has been one of the biggest praises about the duo.
Olave is coming off the best season of his career. He had his first concussion-free season of his career and delivered an All-Pro campaign. One notable improvement Olave made last year was his touchdown production. After recording 10 career touchdowns, he had 9 touchdowns in 2025 to go along with the eighth most yards in the league.
Tyson is arguably the best receiver in the draft. Seeing that he's yet to play a snap, that's his capital. Tyson is an electric receiver who can play every position and attack at every level. It's rare you pair an All-Pro receiver with a top-10 pick.
Since the Saints made the pick, the driving conversation around Tyson has been how he's under less pressure due to Olave's presence. It opens up favorable matchups for Tyson, and if he quickly takes advantage, it'll open up opportunities for Olave as well. When you combine Tyson's potential and Olave's production it has the makings to be one of the best in the league, tenure aside.
The list does include a set of receivers, but instead of rolling with a duo, Carragher chose the trio of DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard. It feels like a bit of goalpost moving honestly. The Saints also have a solid duo, but having two receivers who have multiple 1000 yard seasons likely made the difference.
You'd think Olave and Tyson would be good enough to not have to venture from tandems to trios, especially since we've already highlighted how they check the box for the former. You can't make every list, but it's a bit of a head scratcher since the Olave-Tyson pairing was made for this kind of list.
