Trinidad James is somewhere smiling as the New Orleans Saints are stepping into the Kellen Moore era with a clear "All Gold Everything" theme. From the jerseys to the end zone, the team is going all out with the gold theme for their debut against the Arizona Cardinals. First, they announced they were going to wear their new gold jerseys, but they weren't done yet. The Saints released a video of the end zones being painted gold Wednesday morning.
The team first previewed the move on social media the day prior, posting an up close video of the end zone paint coming out of the machine. It's hard to blame you if you missed it, because it wasn't a visual that grabbed your attention. However, it paid off just a day later.
Fox 8's Garland Gillen noted this is the first time the end zones have been painted gold since the Super Bowl over a decade ago. Normally, New Orleans just has the team name painted and the rest is natural grass.
Gold has never been this prominent with the Saints
Yes the Saints are black and gold, but gold has always been the accent color. The Saints have gold helmets and sometimes wear gold pants. For the most part, it was complimentary. And it served that role well. Under Kellen Moore, it's finally taking a center stage in Week 1.
Many fans have campaigned for the Saints to bring back the gold jerseys. The team had only worn them once in franchise history. Fans got more than they bargained for with the gold painted end zone.
The decision to lean into the gold feels purposeful. The Saints need to increase fan moral and buy in. For a fan base that's low on the team, they need something to get excited about. Going with an all gold theme is also another way to build fan investment in a team that has a questionable outlook in 2025.
It's unclear if the Saints will change the color of the end zone every time they wear the gold jerseys, but for at least the first time, the Saints are pulling out all the stops to ensure a proper debut. All that's left now is to win.
