During the New Orleans Saints’ first preseason game, veteran offensive lineman Trevor Penning was carted off the field with a lower-body injury. Naturally, fans assumed the worst. However, it has since been reported that Penning sustained a foot injury, but avoided anything significant. While fans were fearful of an extended absence, Penning is only expected to miss a few weeks.
This is great news for the offensive lineman and for the Saints. If things go well during his recovery, he could be back on the field in time for Week 1, which would be great for a New Orleans team that needs its offensive line to be at the best.
#Saints G Trevor Penning, whose move inside has been a promising one for the team’s offensive line, is expected to miss just a few weeks with a foot injury, sources say. Nothing major.

Trevor Penning avoids major injury and is expected to miss just a few weeks
The Saints drafted Penning in the first round of the 2022 Draft, but his career got off to an underwhelming start. Between injury and poor play, he was on his way to bust status. However, after a couple of position changes, the veteran offensive lineman has turned things around.
Last season, he moved from left to right tackle, and his play improved. This year, after the team selected tackles in the first round of each of the last two drafts, Penning moved inside to left guard. His improvement continued and he had been having the best camp of his young career. With the 2025 season being the final year of his rookie contract, he knew it was a make-or-break year.
Up until the injury, it had been all make for Penning, as he had appeared to find a home at the guard spot. The foot injury will temporarily pause things, but with the issue not being significant, Penning will be able to return to the guard spot in a couple of weeks and continue turning his career around.
