Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate is viewed as a premier prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft and drew a comparison to New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave by analyst Daniel Jeremiah. Although there are similarities, this comp isn’t a flawless match. That isn’t a bad thing, however. In fact, their differences are what makes them a perfect complement.
“When Ohio State’s had as many receivers as they have, I don’t need to go outside the family to find a comp. I’m going to go with Chris Olave as that vertical stretch receiver,” Jeremiah said. “Getting down the field, tracking the ball beautifully, incredible ball skills, the ability to score once you get down inside the redzone. Those are a lot of the same traits that you see with Carnell Tate. That’s one that I absolutely love.”
While this comp is fair, it’s not perfect. Olave relies more on his speed and smooth route-running, while Tate wins through his contested-catch ability, reliability and awareness. Olave’s speed upstages Tate, but the rookie’s physicality outclasses the veteran. Both are impactful options. The similarities are prevalent, but they aren’t the same player.

Olave and Tate aren’t the same player, but that’s what makes them an amazing fit. The veteran’s blazing speed naturally stretches defenders, which will open up opportunities for Tate. He will frequently face single-coverage matchups, which is where he thrives. Tate’s aforementioned physicality and awareness make him a matchup nightmare and will provide a constant threat to Tyler Shough.
Additionally, Tate’s versatility as an X or Z receiver will allow him and Olave to see the field together. This creates a problem for defenders, as a dangerous threat will reside on both sides of the field.
Overall, Chris Olave isn’t a perfect player comparison for Carnell Tate, but their differences are what would make them a perfect fit in the Saints offense.
