At 31 years old, Alvin Kamara is entering a stage of his career where durability and long-term production naturally become bigger concerns. Last season was statistically the worst of his career, as he posted career lows across several major categories while battling inconsistency within the offense. Most importantly and impactful, he only appeared in 11 games.
The addition of Travis Etienne Jr. gives the New Orleans Saints another explosive option and addresses the team's need for more production in the run game. Etienne's ability to create big plays and handle a heavy workload could help ease some of the pressure that has been placed on Kamara in recent seasons.
Still, moving on from Kamara would leave the Saints without much proven production behind Etienne in the backfield. While the roster has younger talent with potential, none have consistently produced at the level Kamara has throughout his career. This makes the situation more complicated than simply replacing an aging veteran.
