With uncertainty still surrounding New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara heading into the season, head coach Kellen Moore made it clear the team is not rushing a decision. Moore told the media there is currently no timeline on figuring out Kamara's situation with the team this year.
These comments suggest that the door remains open for several possibilities as the Saints continue evaluating their roster heading into training camp. Kamara still plays a key role in the Saints offense which makes the uncertainty surrounding his future on of the team's biggest storylines moving forward.
At this point, the Saints appear content taking the patient approach as they work through the situation. His status will continue to draw attention throughout the offseason. Any decision involving Kamara could have a significant impact on the direction of the Saints offense heading into 2026.
New Orleans Saints offense hinges on decision involving Alvin Kamara
At 31 years old, Alvin Kamara is entering a stage of his career where durability and long-term production naturally become bigger concerns. Last season was statistically the worst of his career, as he posted career lows across several major categories while battling inconsistency within the offense. Most importantly and impactful, he only appeared in 11 games.
The addition of Travis Etienne Jr. gives the New Orleans Saints another explosive option and addresses the team's need for more production in the run game. Etienne's ability to create big plays and handle a heavy workload could help ease some of the pressure that has been placed on Kamara in recent seasons.
Still, moving on from Kamara would leave the Saints without much proven production behind Etienne in the backfield. While the roster has younger talent with potential, none have consistently produced at the level Kamara has throughout his career. This makes the situation more complicated than simply replacing an aging veteran.
