Saints fans have little hope for 2025 and no one can blame them

It's going to be a rough season, to say the least.

No belief in Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough means no belief in the New Orleans Saints. It's not just the analysts feeling that way either. The Saints fan base falls in that same category.

In The Athletic's recently released Hope-O-Meter for the 2025 NFL season, Saints fans ranked as the second-most pessimistic fanbase entering the season. Saints fans are 92% pessimistic and only 8% optimistic for the season ahead. The only team with fans expecting less from their team in 2025 is the Colts, which makes sense given their own quarterback situation.

To say that New Orleans Saints fans are expecting little from the 2025 season would be an understatement. The team is entering the first year of the Kellen Moore era and that, paired with the lack of a real starting quarterback on the roster, has the Saints fanbase down in the dumps without a game even taking place.

Saints fans aren’t buying into 2025 and it’s not hard to see why

The Hope-O-Meter provided comments from fans expressing a positive or negative outlook for the season and it says a lot that the Saints section has three pessimistic comments to only one optimistic opinion. You can probably guess how the pessimistic comments are going to go, but here they are anyway.

  • "The bill has come due after many years of not wanting to shut the contention window. At least we might get Arch Manning."
  • "No cap space, no QB, a spare-parts roster because we couldn't afford to pay the good players we drafted and developed, and no reboot in sight."
  • "A quarterback depth chart that makes you pine for Billy Joe Hobert or Billy Joe Tolliver. And an overall roster just too old and and too mediocre to even contend in the league's weakest division."

Yeah, so all quarterback-related at least in some capacity. When a team trots out Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough as the two best quarterback options, fans are naturally going to be hesitant to buy into what the team is selling. That's why Saints fans are expecting the worst from this team in 2025.

For what it's worth though, the one optimistic quote, while not trying to state that things will be okay this year, does paint a brighter picture for the future. That commenter said that they're excited to have Moore as the Saints head coach and that there's young talent on both sides of the ball that should give fans something to look forward to. "I think the bar being low is a reason for optimism — we can see growth instead of deterioration (only up from here or something like that)."

No one is expecting the Saints to be good in 2025 and fans have sounded off about why that is. We'll have to see if things truly go down as poorly as fans expect them to or if this team ends up surprising us.
