Chris Olave has been limited during all of the New Orleans Saints offseason activities. He missed the final game of the season due to blood clots, and it has kept him from fully participating in every drill. Olave will be completely cleared for training camp, and that was always what mattered.

NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reported Olave will get off blood thinners on June 29. This was always the plan, and he is avoiding contact until then. That explains the limitations, and also gives a timeline of when Olave should shed those limitations. Training camp starts a month later, so he will be good to go next time fans see him.

Olave is certainly happy for the clearance. He’s been clear that he feels good. It’s just about getting the doctor’s ok. He playfully said, "I've been so bored out there.” He won’t have to worry about that in camp starts. He and Saints fans are happy about that.

Chris Olave prioritizing the field over negotiations

Olave has already proven his commitment to the Saints by being present at organized team activities and minicamp. He’s going into the final year of his contract, and one could argue he’s in the exact type of situation that would lead players to sit out to push an extension along.

Olave has an injury history that would make it wise to push for security. Additionally, he’s seen a couple players at his position get new contracts this offseason. Jaxon Smith-Njigba rose the ceiling at the position, and Drake London gave a new ballpark for receivers of Olave’s caliber. This is the epitome of strike while the iron’s hot scenario. Players looking for a deal going into training camp frequently use holding out as a negotiation tactic, and the scene is set for Olave to do the same.

Olave doesn’t seem to have any desire in taking this route. He has another opportunity to do so at training camp, but nothing has suggested he will actually do it. He wants a new deal. Most importantly, he wants to get on the field.
