The New Orleans Saints joined the other 31 NFL teams in trimming down their roster to 53. One of the cuts was 2023 second-round defensive end Isaiah Foskey. Foskey had been one of the biggest losers of the Saints preseason slate. Truthfully, Foskey has been the point of frustrations for many fans since being drafted.

For Foskey, this is a big fall from grace. In 41 games for the Fighting Irish, besides gathering a school record of 26.5 sacks, he also had 122 total tackles (32 for a loss), seven forced fumbles, and two passes defended. He was also a consensus All-American on top of being a team captain.

Unfortunately for Foskey, the writing has been on the wall for some time now. Struggling to produce, he was also getting outperformed by seventh-round draft picks as recently as last weekend.

For former Saint Isaiah Foskey, it's been a long time coming

Isaiah Foskey might have left Notre Dame as their all-time sack leader, but he was unable to gather even one through two years in New Orleans. Playing in 27 games for the black and gold, he was only able to gather 26 total tackles, have one pass defended, and get a measly 0.5 sacks.

However, Foskey was aware of his struggles. In a talk with NewOrleans.Football, he said that his biggest question mark was the games. "I feel like I could have done a lot more. There were plays I could have had, plays that I just didn't make."

The former Saint was unsure whether it was a confidence issue. "I really don't know what it is. I feel way more comfortable standing up. It was just, I don't know, it might just be me in my head or something like that, but I feel way more comfortable standing up. It's way easier for me."

With no word on whether he'll resign with the practice squad, it sounds like Foskey's time in the Crecent CIty is officially over. Although, there's no way he's done with the NFL just yet. He's bound to be picked up by another team and be given the opportunity for a fresh start.
