What is the best-case scenario for the New Orleans Saints offense heading into 2026? Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox tackled this question in his latest article and proposed that Jordyn Tyson, Travis Etienne Jr., and the other offseason acquisitions opening up the offense for Tyler Shough is the golden standard. If they do this, don’t be surprised to see the Saints make a run in the postseason.

“New Orleans should have a chance to compete for the NFC South title this season, especially if new additions like Travis Etienne Jr. and rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson help coach Kellen Moore open up the offense,” Knox wrote. “Shough showed plenty as a dual-threat signal-caller last season. However, he didn't have many reliable skill players behind Chris Olave and Juwan Johnson, which limited the offense.

As Knox noted, Shough was left stranded multiple times in 2025 with few explosive playmakers. This was exemplified in week 18, when Chris Olave, DeVaughn Vele, Alvin Kamara, Devin Neal, and others were all absent because of injury. Because of this, Kellen Moore emphasized adding dynamic players this offseason to ensure that this won’t happen again and help give Shoug a vast arsenal of weapons to target.

Tyler Shough shouldn’t need to be Superman for the Saints.

The Saints’ offense will thrive if Shough doesn’t have to be sensational every play. All that matters is he operates on time and gets the ball to his playmakers. This is why investing in players like Etienne and Tyson is wise. They make Shough’s job significantly easier and give him flexibility.

Another reason opening up the offense is important is the unit’s consistency and continuity. The Saints’ offense has been plagued by stretches of unreliability and mediocrity over the past few seasons. This has caused them to drop games and fall out of playoff contention. Adding these playmakers and allowing Shough to be comfortable will help fix this and maintain an efficient group for the entire season.

The Saints have a bright future if their offseason acquisitions meet expectations and make Tyler Shough’s job easier. Simplifying everything and giving him dynamic weapons is the difference between playing in January and staying home. As Knox pointed out, they will be a competitive force in the NFC South if their best-case scenario comes true.
