The New Orleans Saints have to be done with the Isaiah Foskey experiment. While this may come off a bit harsh, there may not be anyone who wants to get in on the Isaiah Foskey experiment moving forward if he doesn't put anything out there over the next two preseason games.
The Saints haven’t had much luck drafting defensive ends. Foskey was a departure from the typical traits over production players they typically drafted at the position, but that production failed to translate in the pros.
There may not be a player with more to prove than Foskey as the Saints conclude the preseason. His job is on the line and so is his career. There haven't been many flashes throughout his career. He was one of the players who saw their stock drop after the preseason opener. He showed prowess in college, and for some that will be enough. Only time will tell, but that is beginning to look like it will have to happen elsewhere.
Saints grabbed Isaiah Foskey’s “replacement” this offseason
The word replacement is used loosely. It’s difficult to call someone Foskey’s replacement because he hasn’t produced. However, there was a hope he’d slot in as the Saints fourth pass rusher in 2025. Fadil Diggs and Chris Rumph seem better suited for this role.
Diggs was picked up in the seventh round. The rookie edge rusher saw his numbers rise his last three years in college and finished with 7.5 sacks in his final year at Syracuse.
Rumph has been in the league since 2021, and came to New Orleans as a free agent this offseason. He hasn’t seen a lot of production in his career either, but he does have history with Brandon Staley. Most importantly, both Rumph and Diggs looked better than Foskey on Sunday.
It's beginning to feel like a longshot that Foskey will be able to pass them up. They're ascending while the 2023 second rounder is remaining stagnant. They are all fighting for one spot and one guy is lagging behind. Foskey will have to change that in these last two preseason games.
