The New Orleans Saints are entering the 2026 season with the most hype in quite some time. Their wide receiver room is part of that equation, as the trio of Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele, and rookie Jordyn Tyson gives Tyler Shough some firepower to throw to.
That being said, as Saints fans are well-aware of, injuries can happen and pile up in a hurry so having depth is always a plus. Keenan Allen offers one of the best depth options still on the market at wide receiver and the move could still end up happening, especially after the latest update.
According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Chargers are not expected to add more receiver help between now and the start of the season. While he doesn't directly mention the Saints, they have been linked to Allen before.
"Don't expect another late-offseason veteran wide receiver addition like the one the Chargers made last year when they brought back Keenan Allen. They feel great about what rookie receiver Brenen Thompson has shown in camp and the improvements they've seen from Quentin Johnston, Tre' Harris and Derius Davis."
Saints still make sense as landing spot for Keenan Allen
Clearly, the Chargers are satisfied with what they have at wide receiver. G.C. Bellchamber of Bolt Beat, FanSided's Chargers site, still said that perhaps a move to the Big Easy would make sense for Allen as he looks for his next NFL home.
"Perhaps Allen still has some gas left in the tank. A team with a young receiving corps like the New Orleans Saints or the New York Giants could still be a solid fit for him as training camp progresses and roster needs become clearer."
Head coach Kellen Moore seemingly danced around the question when asked about it. He said the team is open to something if it suits them but that the Saints have "a lot of receivers". That does feel like he and the rest of the front office would be open to bringing Allen in if they saw it as a fit.
It's true that the Saints do have "a lot of receivers". They also have a young core at wide receiver and Allen could certainly help serve as a mentor there.
The depth behind the aforementioned starting three are Barion Brown, Bryce Lance, and Mason Tipton as the likely backups, all of whom are young players in this league. Having a seasoned vet like Allen around could do wonders for this group as they try to find their footing in the league.
It'll be interesting to see if the Saints truly make a move on Allen here or if they think the group they have at the position is enough to push them toward an NFC South crown.
