Mansoor Delane lit up when asked about playing for the New Orleans Saints in a way that felt more genuine than other times we've heard players discuss playing for a team. Delane kept it short, but it does seem like Brandon Staley made an impression on the cornerback.

Equally, Delane made an impression on Mickey Loomis. The Saints did their due diligence on Delane before the NFL Draft. He was the only cornerback they brought in for a top-30 visit, and Loomis was at his Pro Day. Loomis mentioned in his pre-draft presser that he found Delane impressive.

Mansoor Delane isn't getting enough attention as a real option for the Saints

For all of the fans who want the Saints to select an LSU player, Delane, surprisingly, isn't getting a lot of attention in the draft. He's been mentioned but the cornerback isn't one of the players you'll hear fans clamoring for. Throw desire out the window, Delane also isn't one of the prospects frequently placed in the bubble of Saints picks.

In some ways, Delane has been treated like an afterthought for the Saints, but he checks all the boxes. Cornerback is one of the five most important positions in football, so he matches the positional value often attached to picks this high.

Delane was extremely productive in college, so you aren't just banking on upside. His one year at LSU thrust him on the radar for many people, but his time at Virginia Tech was productive as well. Delane had four interceptions for the Hokies in 2024. Then, he transferred to a bigger stage in LSU where he stamped himself as an All American and potential top-10 pick.

Caleb Downs has the feels of a generational prospect, and Jordyn Tyson's hype is impossible to ignore at this point. Those two players feel like the most likely targets for the Saints. After that, Delane feels just as likely as any other prospect to be the pick. He plays a premier position of need. There aren't many questions about him athletically or on tape. Don't be surprised if the Saints pick Delane even if other prominent prospects are on the board.
