The NFL has entered full chaos mode, with the league’s legal tampering period starting on Monday. That’s the unofficial start of free agency, as teams and players are able to agree to deals that can be signed once the official free agency window opens. In typical New Orleans Saints fashion, they haven’t done much, aside from trading for veteran defensive tackle Davon Godchaux. Other than that, the biggest Saints-related move has been losing cornerback Paulson Adebo to the New York Giants.
A lot of fans are now wondering if another Saints player could soon be headed to New York as well. Veteran wide receiver Chris Olave has been observing all of the moves taking place on Monday, and his reaction to one of the deals has two different fan bases jumping to some conclusions.
Quarterback Justin Fields has agreed to join the New York Jets, reuniting him with his college teammate Garrett Wilson. Olave, who also played with both guys at Ohio State, simply reacted to the news with three fire emojis. Naturally, this led to some dramatic reactions from Saints and Jets fans.
Chris Olave is excited to see Justin Fields join Garrett Wilson on the Jets
This could easily just be a former teammate expressing his excitement to see his guys linking back up. However, fandom has to take a more dramatic leap, be it good or bad. Some Saints and Jets fans will see this and think, Olave will want to join them in New York for the reunion tour. While landing on the same assumption, Saints fans’ jump ended with panic while Jets fans were filled with excitement.
Both sides need to relax, because Olave isn’t going anywhere. The young wideout is preparing for his fourth season with the Saints, and new head coach Kellen Moore is definitely planning for him to be a focal point of the offense. With two years left on his rookie deal, and an extension inevitable, Olave will remain in New Orleans. So while it’d be great for Jets fans and Ohio State supporters to see the trio all back together, it’s not happening any time soon.
