The New Orleans Saints took down the Carolina Panthers 20-17 on Sunday, earning their fourth victory of the season. However, the team did not come out unscathed, with wide receiver Devaughn Vele exiting the game in the fourth quarter due to an injury.
Thankfully, per NewOrleans.football's Nick Underhill, Vele managed to avoid major injury and is considered week-to-week. Although, his return reportedly might be tricky due to where we are in the season right now. There are only three weeks left, so week to week could easily become season ending.
It is unclear whether or not we might see Vele next week when the New York Jets come to town. But with no mention of him being out for the season, fans still might get a glimpse at #14 in the final stretch of the 2025 season.
Saints WR Devaughn Vele has started to come into his own
Vele might not have started out the season hot, but he has for sure found his groove over the past four games, hauling in 19 catches for 239 yards and one touchdown. Finally playing like a wide receiver that the Saints spent a fourth-round pick on, Vele really been able to elevate his status.
Also, if you squint, Devaughn Vele could remind you a lot about Saints legendary wide receiver Michael Thomas, who made a career out of the same kinds of catches that Vele was making over the weekend. Certainly a player that he'd like to be compared to, the second-year wide receiver has made that offseason trade worth it.
Kellen Moore has continued to be impressed with his progress, putting him in the same conversations as Chris Olave at certain times. The first-year head coach also gave Vele some credit for revitalizing the middle of the field for the Saints offense. "Vele has made a ton of big plays that I can think of with end breakers," he said on the Monday after the win over the Panthers.
