Make no mistake, the New Orleans Saints’ season has been a disaster thus far. However, one positive of a disappointing year is a high pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Fortunately for them, a perfect prospect awaits in Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore.

The Saints currently hold the 11th pick in April, according to Tankathon. However, they’ve shown no signs of improvement under Kellen Moore and could continue to falter, thus leading to a higher selection. If this happens, don’t be surprised to hear Leonard Moore named as a dream fit for them.

Beyond this, the Saints’ cornerback room needs reinforcements. Kool-Aid McKinstry has flashed brilliance, but his inconsistency makes him unreliable. Additionally, Martin Emerson Jr. and Quincy Riley haven’t shown enough to be considered long-term solutions. Because of this, they must address the unit in April.

Leonard Moore is the most talented defensive player in the nation.

Leonard Moore will immediately be the Saints’ best cornerback after signing his contract. The six-foot-two, 197-pound junior is the complete package. He’s an outstanding athlete, has pristine technique, and is scheme-versatile.

Moore’s A-list trait is his dominance in man coverage. He’s stifling in press, using his long arms to jam the receiver and disrupt his timing. Then, his aforementioned athleticism helps him shut down opposing receivers, regardless of the archetype. His agility and long speed help him stick with small, shifty receivers, while his size and physicality let him eliminate prototypical X receivers

This rings true in zone coverage also. Moore’s a fluid mover and has superb instincts, helping him read the quarterback’s eyes and make a play. He has outstanding ball skills and switches roles with the receiver, forcing them to play defense to stop an interception.

On top of this, Moore is an impactful run defender. He’s still developing his tackling, with a 15.8% missed-tackle rate in 2026, but the potential is evident. He triggers downhill and isn’t afraid of contact, sprinting to stop the ball carrier.

Brandon Staley, or whoever the Saints’ defensive coordinator will be, should be captivated by the possibility of Leonard Moore in New Orleans. He’s a bona fide star and would transform a struggling secondary. He would be a perfect consolation if the season turns south.

Yes, it’s still early to say anything definitive. But the fit is clear with Moore and the Saints. He will be a target in the offseason, barring any major updates, and is someone fans must know before the draft.
