There was a lot of hope for the New Orleans Saints through two weeks of the 2024 season, but things proceeded to go off the rails. The ending is unknown, but right now, the Indianapolis Colts are the new Saints.
The Saints started hot in 2024; they were 2-0 through two games and had scored a whopping 91 points. Their defense had held opponents to just 29 points in their first two games. However, in the coming weeks, things fell apart.
In fact, it was so bad that the Saints actually lost seven games in a row and had to fire former head coach Dennis Allen. After that wicked 2-0 start, New Orleans won just three more games all year. Well, there could be a team this year trending toward becoming the 2024 Saints.
The 2025 Indianapolis Colts might be the 2024 version of the Saints
The 2025 Indianapolis Colts do truly feel similar to the 2024 Saints. Indy is 2-0 on the year with a blowout win over the Dolphins and a close win over the Denver Broncos. Their offense has scored 62 points in two games, and their defense has done a solid job, holding opponents to just 18 points per game.
However, Indy plays three of their next five games away from home after playing at home in Weeks 1 and 2. They also see tougher opponents in the LA Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and Los Angeles Chargers over the next several weeks. Furthermore, Daniel Jones is their starting QB.
And while Jones has looked great through two weeks, this is still the same Daniel Jones who was a bottom-5 starter with the New York Giants for years. Furthermore, head coach Shane Steichen hasn't exactly proven himself to be 'the one' who can lead this franchise.
Sure, he's 2-0, but the first two years of his tenure were shaky. He had a 17-17 record through the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Colts. Now yes, you might not care about the Indianapolis Colts, but I guarantee that a ton of Saints' fans were feeling very optimistic about the team through two weeks.
Everything came crashing down, though, and this could be the case for the 2025 Indianapolis Colts.
