The biggest priority for the New Orleans Saints this offseason should be bolstering the supporting cast around Tyler Shough. Failing to do so would be an automatic failed offseason. That's the reason Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox detailed it as the worst-case offseason scenario for the Saints this summer.

A strong offseason is more than splashy headlines.  It’s where some teams quietly build the foundation for real progress.  Smart roster upgrades, better depth, and putting young talent in positions to succeed can determine whether momentum carries into the season or stalls before it starts.

“If the Saints want Shough to improve in Year 2 while putting themselves back in the playoff conversation, they have to improve their offensive cast. New Orleans needs a high-end receiver opposite Chris Olave, help along the interior offensive line, and a durable running back who can complement or replace an aging Alvin Kamara.”

Not improving the offense risks letting a golden opportunity slip away for the New Orleans Saints

For the Saints, the nightmare offseason scenario is standing still offensively and leaving Tyler Shough without the upgraded weapons needed to elevate the unit.  A young quarterback’s growth depends heavily on protection, reliable targets, and a reliable run game.  The Saints could improve in every single one of those categories.

Standing pat would risk stalling both Shough's development and the offense’s momentum.  Without meaningful reinforcements, Shough would be asked to carry too much too soon.  This scenario could limit the unit's ceiling and slow the team’s overall progress.

The Saints defense has a balance of seasoned veterans and youthful energy.  Their play last season kept them competitive in most games, ranking 14th in the league in points allowed at 22.5.  With a complimentary offense, this defense could reach its full potential.  Upgrading the offense gives Shough the weapons he needs. It turns close games into wins and could turn them into the division favorite.

A key reason the New Orleans Saints should urgently upgrade the offense is that the NFC South has remained wide open, offering a real chance to take control.  Failing to add offensive firepower and stability could cost them the opportunity to surpass their foes in a division begging to be claimed.
