The New Orleans Saints are spending training camp in California again. No need to worry Saints fans. It's only going to be a week, unlike last year when the Saints spent all of training camp on the West Coast.
Kellen Moore announced Thursday morning the Saints would move training camp to UC Irvine from Apr 6 to Apr 15. It's a nine day span that includes a preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Saints won't hold joint practices with the Chargers
The practices are scheduled before and after the first preseason game of the year versus the Chargers. Despite the convenience of the scheduling and location, the Saints will not be holding joint practices with Los Angeles.
Joint practices have been a regular occurrence for the Saints over the last few years. The team have had joint practices with other teams ahead of preseason matchups scheduled in each of the last four years.
Practices with the Jaguars were announced then retracted due to logistic issues in 2022. A littany of injuries forced the 49ers to back out of joint practices last year. Still, this has been something the Saints have regularly entertained. Announcing they won't share the practice field with the Chargers is a shift from the norm, a theme of the offseason in some ways.
It was previously reported earlier this offseason the Saints and Chargers were expected to have joint practices. Those plans clearly didn't fall through, but the Saints are still making the trip to Los Angeles.
The Saints return to New Orleans a couple of days before the next preseason game versus the Jaguars. The decision to not practice with the Chargers likely rules out any joint practices this year, unless the Denver Broncos decide to make the trip to New Orleans prior to the final preseason game.
