The New Orleans Saints have suddenly become an intriguing team in the 2025 Draft, largely because of the team’s need at quarterback. The Saints have done work on all of the quarterback prospects, and there’s also a chance Derek Carr played his last snap with the team after reports of his shoulder injury. That all means New Orleans could use one of its first two picks on a quarterback.

There’s a chance it could happen at No. 9, if Shedeur Sanders is still available then. However, many draft analysts believe the Saints won’t go quarterback that early, even if Sanders is available. New Orleans seems more interested in landing a quarterback in the end of the first round or early in the second.

That's evident by a recent report that the Saints have been eyeing a possible trade up in the second round. NFL insider Adam Schefter recently released a piece on all the latest draft intel he’s hearing, and when discussing the possibility of Sanders coming to New Orleans, Schefter revealed the Saints have already “made exploratory calls about trading up in Round 2.”

Saints have already made calls about trading up in round two of the 2025 Draft

After the ninth pick, New Orleans is currently set to be back on the clock at No. 40, which is the eighth pick in the second round. However, there’s a belief that a lot of teams will be trying to trade up into the end of the first or early in the second to land quarterback prospects like Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, and Tyler Shough. If the Saints really want to get one of those guys, they know they’ll have to move to ensure it happens, so the calls are likely setting the groundwork for a possible move.

However, the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants have the first two picks of the second round, and draft experts believe they’ll select some combination of Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter in the first round. That means both teams will need QBs in round two. Unless the Saints are sending them Spencer Rattler, they probably won’t be willing to move out of those spots.

That means the Saints will have to jump in front of them, going into the end of the first round, to select a quarterback before they can. New Orleans has nine total picks in the draft, including two thirds and two fourths, so a trade up is possible. The team just has to have a chance at a quarterback it deems worthy of the move.
