Although the season has been unraveling for the New Orleans Saints, third-year wide receiver Rashid Shaheed has remained a bright spot for the team. Every week, he delivers an explosive play that keeps New Orleans in games. Despite the four-game losing streak, Shaheed has still been a shining star.
Unfortunately, his light is now being dimmed. On Wednesday, Saints head coach Dennis Allen announced that the explosive receiver will be undergoing a meniscus surgery on Thursday. That will, of course, keep him out of New Orleans’s Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos, but it will sideline him for even longer.
Shaheed won’t have a timeline for a return until he undergoes surgery. Once the procedure is started, it will be determined if he needs a full meniscus repair or just a trim. If he only needs a trim, he’ll miss multiple weeks, but could return this season. If Shaheed needs a full repair, his season would be over.

Saints announce Rashid Shaheed will undergo meniscus surgery
This injury was sustained in the fourth quarter of New Orleans’ Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it’s the latest of many injuries to a key player in New Orleans this season.
Shaheed, already a Pro Bowl and All-Pro returner, was having the best season of his career as a receiver. Through six games, he had 20 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns. He was well on his way to having his most productive season yet.
He has still been a factor in the return game as well, returning nine punts for 143 yards and a touchdown, leading the league in yards per return and touchdowns. He also has six kick returns for 171 yards.
Now, New Orleans will hope that he only has to miss a few weeks, as the team tries to replace his big-play ability.
