The New Orleans Saints had to wait until after the Super Bowl to hire Kellen Moore as the team’s head coach, but it was worth it, as Moore’s work as an offensive coordinator helped the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl 59. However, the long wait created a lot of openings on New Orleans’ coaching staff for Moore to fill.

Fortunately, that didn’t prove to be a problem for Moore, who leaned on his connections throughout the league to build a strong coaching staff for his first year as a head coach. With new and returning coaches, the Saints have built a quality staff with a healthy mix of youth and experience.

Saints 2025 coaching staff

The staff is headlined by the two coordinators: Doug Nussmeier at offensive coordinator and Brandon Staley at defensive coordinator. Both have previously worked with Moore, with Nussmeier working alongside the rookie head coach with the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles. All three were on staff together in LA in 2023 when Staley was the Chargers head coach.

Replacing Darren Rizzi as special teams coordinator is Phil Galino. He worked as New Orleans’ assistant special teams coach from 2019 to 2024, so it was only right that Galino got promoted once Rizzi made the decision to join the Denver Broncos.

Among the other highlights on the coaching staff is Joel Thomas resuming his role as the running backs coach. He held that position from 2015 to 2023, but went to the New York Giants last season. Now, he’s back in New Orleans with the same role, and is also the associate head coach.

Jahri Evans also remains on staff as the assistant offensive line coach, and Keith Williams is also back as the wide receiver coach. He’s a respected name throughout the league, so it’s great New Orleans was able to hold on to him.

Beyond coaches, a lot of fans were excited to see the team made a change at director of sports performance as well, hiring Ted Rath. He previously held that role with the Eagles and Los Angeles Rams, and considering New Orleans’ injuries in 2024, everyone is hoping he can make a difference.

That’s the hope for the entire staff right now, which looks good on paper, but their time in New Orleans will be defined by how the Saints look on the field.
