Potential Saints free agent target screams 'little to lose, everything to gain'

Wyatt Teller said his goodbye to the Cleveland Browns on Instagram earlier this week, after being a mainstay on their offensive line for over half a decade. Hitting free agency for the first time in his career, the New Orleans Saints should absolutely try to grab him.

Since becoming a starting guard midway through 2018, Teller has become one of the best at his position, earning three Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro nods. He has never allowing more than four sacks in one season, and his run blocking has become world-renowned. Just ask running backs Nick Chubb (four-time pro bowler) or Quinshon Judkins if Teller can help that part of the offense.

That's something that could really help a Saints run game that has struggled over the past few seasons and ranked 28th in the NFL last year. You'd have to go back to the 2020 season for the last time the Saints had a run game inside the top 10, and funny enough, that's also the last time the Saints had a guard make the Pro Bowl. A change has long been needed, and Teller could be the player that New Orleans has been lacking.

The Saints' offensive line needs to be better in 2026

It's easy to argue that guard is the biggest need on the team. It trickles into the run and the pass. If you want to maximize Tyler Shough, get an offensive line. Want to run the ball half as well as Moore did in Philadelphia, get an offensive line. It all revolves around that unit.

Even if the Saints aren't the ones who get Wyatt Teller, they need to keep trying to improve the interior of their offensive line. It wasn't very good at all last season, and in fact, it was one of the main reasons that the run game struggled as much as it did. Neither of the two guards, Cesar Ruiz and Dillon Radunz, was able to get anything higher than 50 on their Pro Football Focus run-blocking grade.

With an offensive line struggling that much, it'd be impossible for any team in the NFL to establish a run game. As annoying as it might sound, the Saints have drafted this position in the first round in three of the past five drafts, but the offensive line needs to be addressed this offseason. If it's not Teller or another free agent, then New Orleans has to draft a guard this April.
