Which undrafted rookie is most likely to make the Saints roster?
Every year during the NFL Draft, over 200 players’ dreams come true as they hear their name called in one of the seven rounds. However, there are a ton of other players who take a different route. After the draft concludes, all the prospects who weren’t selected become undrafted free agents. From that point, they must find a team to sign with and claw their way on to the roster.
This year, the New Orleans Saints signed over 10 undrafted free agents. Unfortunately, majority of them will be cut. Some will likely be re-signed to the practice squad and others will move on to different teams. There’s also a chance that a few will actually make the roster and become contributors for the Saints.
New Orleans has witnessed undrafted players have success before . Currently, the best example on the team is Rashid Shaheed, who wasn’t picked in the 2022 Draft. Still, he signed with the Saints and has been balling ever since. Shaheed is already a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro returner, and he’s currently the second-best receiver on New Orleans’ roster.
Will any of the current undrafted rookies on the Saints have that kind of success or at least make the roster? Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report recently made predictions for the most likely undrafted free agent to make each team. For New Orleans, Fowler argued that tight end Dallin Holker is the most likely option.
Dallin Holker named most likely undrafted rookie to make Saints roster
Dallin Holker is a 6-foot-3, 241-pound tight end out of Colorado State. As Fowler highlighted, Holker led all college tight ends in receiving yards last season. In his final season at Colorado State, he caught 64 passes for 767 yards and six touchdowns. His three years prior to that were spent at BYU, and he only recorded 42 receptions for 521 yards and three touchdowns in 28 games.
New Orleans really wanted Holker, making him the highest-paid undrafted free agent, and Fowler believes the Saints’ depth chart is set up for Holker to make the team and have early an impact. Currently on the roster at tight end are Juwan Johnson, Taysom Hill, Foster Moreau, Tommy Hudson, and now Dallin Holker. There will certainly be an opportunity for Holker to make noise in camp and secure a spot on the regular season roster.
